Overview

RHI Magnesita is seeking an experienced Senior Manufacturing Manager to oversee all areas of finished product manufacturing for the York, PA site.  Our manufacturing plant in York, PA is a diverse, integrated operation with a mine on site and the company's largest refractory product manufacturing facility in North America.  This position manages a complex network of raw material processing as well as multiple refractory manufacturing plants within the site.

Responsibilities and Duties

The following is a summary of the main responsibilities of the Senior Manufacturing Manager position. Additional duties may be assigned through project work, auditing, or additional oversight of programs:

  • Serves as the champion of safe behaviors, safety manufacturing processes and safety process improvements across the facility, working directly with safety leadership and the operations management team to drive hazard awareness and injury prevention.
  • Responsibility for the overall quality of production and supports the team in exceeding quality standards, rectifying quality concerns, and continually educating the workforce on essential quality delivery to our customers.
  • Analyzes data and trends, both internally and in collaboration with the global supply chain team, to make well-researched decisions and recommendations to leadership for short-term and long-term manufacturing plans to achieve business objectives.
  • Supports the creation and directly manages the financial plan for manufacturing operations at the York, PA facility. Makes efforts to achieve financial goals through collaboration with direct reports and senior leadership.
  • Supports the operations team to achieve optimum staffing levels relative to market demand and annual financial plans.
  • Identify and implement manufacturing policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and profitability, including employee training and development, safety, housekeeping, cost optimization, employee engagement, and site security.
  • Lead and support the efforts of the department managers to accomplish goals in the manufacturing plan. Act as a liaison between plant staff and upper management levels, providing clear communication about decisions, policies, recommendations, and requests for additional support and resources.
  • Works with operations management to rectify areas of inefficiency to improve productivity and optimize costs. Implement new systems or processes using Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Leads the plant's continuous improvement process, providing long-term continuous improvement recommendations to the Director to provide the most effective and efficient facility management delivery to the business.

Required education and experience

  • BS from an accredited college or university
  • 10 years of manufacturing management with a minimum of $25M in operating expenses

Preferred education and experience

  • A degree in engineering or related technical field is preferred
  • An MBA or similar overall business management knowledge is preferred
  • Strong preference for Six Sigma certification, education on Lean manufacturing processes or 5S
  • Strong preference for experience supporting a complex 24/7 manufacturing operation
  • Strong preference for experience in the refractory, minerals, cement, or steel industries

Additional skills

  • Hands on, forward thinking, and improvement/results driven
  • Works effectively and collaboratively, including clear written and verbal communications
  • High proficiency with MS Office Suite of products, specifically MS Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • High proficiency with use of an ERP, MRP, or similar system for data input, output, report creation and data analysis
  • Willingness to travel as needed, both domestically and internationally
