Overview

The Human Resources Generalist is the main point of contact for employee relations, talent acquisition, and delivering high level customer support to the operations departments at RHI Magnesita. This position serves as a partner to the business and its team members through the entire employee lifecycle. Following the merger of RHI and Magnesita in 2017, the York, PA facility is slated to grow to support our business in North America.

Responsibilities and duties

The following is a summary of the main responsibilities of the HR Generalist position. Additional duties may be assigned through project work, auditing, or additional oversight of programs:

  • This position is the key HR team member for recruiting efforts of our manufacturing and mining operations in York, PA. Since the York, PA facility serves as the headquarters for RHI Magnesita in North America this position will recruit for all facets of team members but primarily for our direct labor workforce. Our ideal candidate will add a creative spin to our existing approach to recruiting as well as provide hands-on sourcing, screening, interviewing, orienting, and on-boarding new team members for York, PA operations.
  • The second focus of the Generalist position will be to provide employee relations support to each assigned operations team including meeting with managers, supervisors, or team leaders to assess the organizational health of their teams; helps anticipate issues and provide solutions in advance of challenges; helps the business resolve conflicts in the team; and applies people management programs or policies to help these leaders effectively manage their teams. Our ideal candidate will have a collaborative approach to working through challenges, educating our workforce, building strong relationships across our team.
  • To provide the best support to our teams, this position will frequently reference HR policies in the administration of employee relations, for example has a strong understanding of employee handbook, policy documents, benefits programs, and how each of these programs intersect or run parallel to each other in the full employee life cycle.
  • This position will have responsibility to gather information on training needs, work with the human resources and operations management teams to develop in-house training or find qualified third parties to deliver necessary training. WedNetPA experience is helpful since we are a proud participant of this program.
  • Our ideal candidate will have experience facilitating the leave of absence review process including supporting FMLA or workers compensation processes; coordinating concurrent leave or workers comp benefits through the benefits department; supporting the management team in understanding their role in the leave or workers comp processes; and continually updating and communicating clearly to the impacted employee his/her responsibilities under these programs.

Required education and experience

  • AA, BA or BS in Human Resources Management or related business program from an accredited college or university
  • High school diploma or GED plus accredited certification, i.e. SHRM-CP, considered in lieu of college degree
  • 5 years of human resources generalist-level work in a manufacturing or similarly fast-paced work environment

Preferred education and experience

  • Accredited certification in human resources practices like SHRM-CP, PHR or similar
  • Strong preference for experience supporting a multi-national manufacturing business

Additional skills

  • High proficiency with MS Office Suite of products, specifically MS Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • High proficiency with use of an electronic timekeeping system, HRIS, or payroll system including data entry, data changes, and report analysis. RHI Magnesita uses Ceridian.
  • Ability to interact with staff, partners, and the general public with a calm and professional demeanor, pleasant and clear tone of voice, and follow through with their requests.
  • Attention to detail on instructions from team members or partners
